My First Book of The Year

So  it’s a new year, and new year means new books! I firmly believe that the first book of the year should be something special, something that sets off the year the right way. I always make sure to chose something that I know I will like,or something that I’ve always read.So this year I decided to read…..

A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini

I love Khaled Hosseini, his books offer such a great insight into Afghanistan, and I absolutely adore The Kite Runner, and And The Mountains Echoed. So A Thousand Splendid Suns  seemed like a good first read.Plus it’s diverse which is a great way to start 2017.

While it wasn’t as good as I thought it would be, it was still very good. It was tragic, and very well crafted. The two main characters were A+, and I really liked the way story unfolds.I rated this book 4/5 stars. It’s not a five stars read because I wasn’t completely blown away, and it didn’t hit me as hard as his other books.

What is your first read of 2017?Have you finished it? Did you like it?Are  You liking it?

  1. I’m still reading ‘Just One Year’ by Gayle Forman that I had already started in December … and I’m not enjoying it very much. Not the best way to start 2017 😦

      1. I really enjoyed JUST ONE DAY, and I even ended up giving it 5 stars, but I just couldn’t put myself to like the second book. I just finished it like … 20 minutes ago?? haha I had to force myself to read it, otherwise I’d have been stuck with it for another week. I’m really disappointed that I didn’t like it that much, but I just couldn’t relate to Willem. Allyson felt so much more like me 😛 I think I’d have enjoyed the book if they had dual POV, maybe?? I don’t know :/ ALSO, THAT END – I’ve heard that the actual ending of the book is only available in ebook, whaat? whyy? I already started this, I want to have them all on my shelf .-. Sorry for the big comment, I’m just really upset about this xD

      2. I can definitely understand why you wouldn’t like it. I feel as though Just One Day is much more emotional and kind of more deep while Just One year is just really nothing interesting. I can’t even remember what happened in Just One year, it definitely left less of an imprint on me than Just one day did. And I know??? I don’t read ebooks so i guess i’ll never know how it ends

      3. same here!! I’m not sure if I’ll check out the ebook. One of my friends gave me Just One Day on my bday in the portuguese edition, so I got Just One Year in that edition as well. If the publisher eventually translates and publishes (a small book, I suppose) Just One Night (I think that’s the title) I’ll read it, otherwise, I don’t think so 😦
