Dangerous Girls by Abigail Haas

Goodreads  Summary:

It’s Spring Break of senior year. Anna, her boyfriend Tate, her best friend Elise, and a few other close friends are off to a debaucherous trip to Aruba that promises to be the time of their lives. But when Elise is found brutally murdered, Anna finds herself trapped in a country not her own, fighting against vile and contemptuous accusations.

As Anna sets out to find her friend’s killer; she discovers hard truths about her friendships, the slippery nature of truth, and the ache of young love.

As she awaits the judge’s decree, it becomes clear that everyone around her thinks she is not just guilty, but dangerous. When the truth comes out, it is more shocking than one could ever imagine.

My Thoughts:

Plot: I’ve read my share of thrillers, and for the most part I  haven’t been impressed. Read Gone Girl, didn’t like it. Read Girl on The Train, really didn’t like it.So I just kind of dismissed thrillers as something I could never really truly enjoy. Boy was I wrong. I’m going to be brief, because unless you have read this book everything I said could be a hint to the way the story unveils itself

As you can gather from the description Dangerous Girls tells the story of Anna, a girl accused of the murder of her best friend while on Spring vacation in Aruba.Dangerous Girls is told chronologically out of order, alternating between what happened in Aruba, how Elise and and Anna met, and what happened after Elise’s murder. This gives us a lot of insight and different perspectives on Anna’s life before and after the murder.

This is the type of book that has you thinking one thing, and then turning it out to be something else that is the opposite of what you expect. For this reason, I think it’s very important that you try not to spoil yourself or get spoiled. This would kind of  ruin the whole experience of reading this book, i’m sure it would be still enjoyable but not quite as impactful.

Haas paints the characters-Anna and Elise in particular- very well. They are very well rounded characters, and we really get to see the evolution of Anna’s and Elise’s friendship. Though we see Anna being portrayed in such a dark light, the flashbacks portray Anna in a positive light, showing her for the caring and brave girl she is.

As I said before, their friendship is a very strong one. And you can really tell that their bond is stronger than most. They love each other so much, and would do anything for each other.

The only problem I had with the characters and the book was the fact that the other characters, Anna and Elise’s  friends weren’t as well developed as the Anna and Elise. I guess that’s because their friendship  wasn’t as strong, and the other friends weren’t as close

I finished this book in one sitting, so needless to say this book is very easy to devour. The writing is very enrapturing, and instantly grabs your attention.Abigail Haas paints  the situation and characters very well with her words, and keeps your attention until the very end.
