The Books/TV Shows/Movies That Helped Me Get Through My First Year of College

So last week I finished my first year of college and I’m honestly still in shock that I got through it. It fees like just yesterday that I started. To be completely honest, the first year wasn’t the easiest but having books and tv shows to keep me company really helped it become manageable. A year ago I wrote a post about the books that got me through high school and I thought I’d do the same except I would expand it to other forms of media as well.

1.Simon VS The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli

So it’s only been like five months since the new eyar started but I’ve read this book three times.  It’s just such a comforting book and it’s one that I’ll always come back to when I’m feeling down or am in a reading slump. I will never grow tired reading about Simon, Blue,Leah, Abby, Nick and all the wonderful people in the simonverse.

2. Foolish Hearts by Emma Mills

Cute fluffy books is the perfect cure for school blues and Foolish Hearts is the epitome of a cute fluffy book.  I die just thinking about it: it’s so adorable and just everything a contemporary should aspire to be. Contemporaries are especially great to read during school time because they’re less draining and just pure fun.

3. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

I reread this in my first weeks of college and it helped me so much. There’s nothing quite like the comfort of your favorite book to make the homesickness go away.

4. Nice Try Jane Sinner by Lianne Oelke

Writing this blog has really kept me grounded when nothing else could and part of that is reviewing the wonderful books  that publishers send me. Nice Trey Jane Sinner was definitely my favorite of those books and I just had so much fun reading it and doing a blog tour for it!

5. Leah on The Offbeat By Becky Albertalli

I’m obsessed with all things becky albertalli related so of course I had to mention her latest book!! I read this book in like two hours from like ten to midnight and it was just the best experience ever. I laughed, I cried and I just love everything that she writes. She’s a true genius.

TV Show

1.Brooklyn Nine Nine

B99 is my favorite show of all time. It’s so funny and all the characters are amazing and I just love it with all of my heart.  Being able to watch an episode every week was a great start to my week. I was close to tears when I saw that it got canceled but I’m so glad that NBC picked it up. This is one of those shows that deserves like 10 seasons.

2. How I Met Your Mother.

This was the show that I obsessively watched in my first few weeks of college. It was a show that my sister got me into, so it really reminded me of her which was nice. I’m still hella pissed about the last episode because I feel like it just ruined the entire show for me but it’s still a show that I really really enjoy even though there are definitely some problematic aspects.

3. The Good Place

I discovered this show during my fall semester and it was so good holy shit. I never expected to love it as much as I do but it’s brilliant and I can’t wait for the third season.  It’s one of those that’s super unique and always keeps me on my toes. The humor is amazing and I relate to all the characters so much.

4. The Office

I never thought that I’d like The Office but I was looking for shows to watch and my sister’s boyfriend recommended this show and I decided to give it a chance. I watched the first 8 seasons in two weeks so I think it’s pretty safe to say that I liked it. Actually like is a pretty small word, I’d more say love.  It has become one of my favorite shows of all time and I just love it so much. Michael is the best character ever.

5. One Day At A Time

I remember when  I first watched the first season back in January of 2017 and I learnt that season 2 wouldn’t be coming out until a year from then, it felt so weird for me to think about where I’d be at that point. Well I finally watched the 2nd season this January and it was soooo good. This show is brilliant and I love the family dyamic and it’s just such a beautiful show. I really hope it gets more seasons

Movies( more like movie singular though)

Okay so I’m not that a huge fan of watching movies by myself because it’s something I prefer to do with family. so I didn’t watch that many movies alone this year but there has been one movie that I watched back in February and then in March and then I found a pirated version and since then I’ve watched it oh… about 30 times(yes I know I have a problem). And that movie is LOVE SIMON. This is my new favorite movie and I love it with all my heart and whenever I feel sad or just meh I watch it and no matter how many times I’ve watched it, it never fails to make my heart burst.

Top Ten Favorite T.V Shows

So about a year and a half ago I did a blog post with this exact same title but looking at it, I’ve realized my taste in t.v shows has kind of changed, and I’ve grown out of shows I used to love and have found amazing shows to take their place.

1. Brooklyn Nine Nine

Brooklyn Nine Nine is one of those shows that never fails to make laugh and is consistently funny and literally all of the jokes are constructed perfectly and hilarious. That’s so rare in a sitcom and literally everything about the show is perfect. The characters are all amazing and despite the fact that it’s a sitcom, it never shied away from serious topics. Also the diversity is on point and it’s one of the most unproblematic shows out there. If you haven’t watched it, I highly recommend that you do: it won’t let you down.

2.Doctor Who

I recently started rewatching the series and though I usually skip over eleven when I do so, I’ve decided to give him a second chance and I’m glad I did because I actually don’t hate him as much as I thought I did. But of course, ten will always be my number one. Doctor who is an amazingly unique show that never fails to amaze me. The plot is so fascinating but the characters are just as great. With so many sci-fi stories, one always seems to be sacrificed for the other but Doctor Who manages to have both a intriguing plot and complex and developed characters.

3. Gilmore Girls

Gilmore Girls is one of those shows that I think I might grow out of eventually but nonetheless it has a very special place in my heart. It’s such a funny and heartwarming show and though there are definitely some parts that piss me off, there’s something so timeless about the story. Stars Hollow is a magical town and the people in it are just as amazing. I don’t think I’ll ever grow tired of Lolerai’s quick wit and I know that if I ever chose to rewatch it, I’ll fall in love with it all the over again.

4.The Good Place

THIS SHOW IS AMAZING OH MY GOD. It’s hilarious, unique and all the characters are relatable af. There’s not a single character that I hate because they’re all amazing and beautiful and though they’re flawed, they learn and it’s great. I seriously need it to come back and I can’t believe I have to wait until September. I don’t know if I’ll able to survive until then. I feel like this show is really representative of my soul and I just need a million seasons because I will never be tired of Team Coakroach.

5.The Get Down

This show never got the love it deserved and I am severely pissed. If this was a show about white people and music during the 70s in New York everyone would be all over it but the minute it’s about Black and Latinx teens everybody stays quiet. THIS SHOW DID NOT DESERVE TO BE CANCELED. This show was beautiful and amazing and had great characters and the plot was so interesting and everyone just slept on it. I will never not be pissed about what happened. This show was amazing and I will forever be bitter that people didn’t show it the love it deserved.

6.This Is Us

When I first started hearing all the hype about this show I didn’t get it at all. To me it seemed like a pretty simple show and I couldn’t understand why everyone was so emotional. But now I get it. This show is a rollercoaster of emotions and every episode is guaranteed to tear at your heartstrings. Though the concept seems simple, it is done masterfully and the way it’s constructed is really cool. The relationship between the characters are so nuanced and complicated and they’re all so wonderful and precious. This is one of those shows that actually deserves the hype it gets, as well as all the awards that this show keeps on winning.

7.One Day at A Time

This show is hilarious and beautiful and touches on so many important issues and there are so many nuanced discussions about depression and racism and coming out and I really hope it gets renewed because if it didn’t I would cry. I relate to Elena on so many levels, and I simultaneously am her and want to date her and she just deserves all the happiness in the world and I just love her so much ahhhhh. The family dynamics in this show is so great and just everything about this show is pure perfection.

8.The Office

I never really thought that I’d actually like this but after watching eight seasons in two weeks I can safely safe that this show is definitely one of my faves. ITS SO FUNNY OH MY GOD. Never has a show made me laugh this hard, all the jokes are on point. The characters are so funny and great and wonderful. Michael Scott is the most amazing boss ever and I love him so much. Also Jim and Pam are the cutest couple ever and definitely one of my favorite OTPS.

9. The 4400

This show is hella underrated and while it’s a tad bit cheesy, it’s so great. The concept is really unique and every single episode is really interesting. Also the characters are super dope and it’s just a really great show. It’s definitely not a perfect show by any means but it’s addictive. I’ve rewatched it like three times and I never get tired of it. I would highly recommend it and I really wish this show got more love because it’s great.

10. Veronica Mars

I fucking love Kristen Bell so much oh my god. She’s so amazing as Veronica Mars and Veronica’s just the most spunky and sarcastic character and she’s so incredibly strong. This show does not mess around and it’s a really great show. I wasn’t that impressed with the movie but I heard that they’re going to be making a mini series which I’m really excited about.

What Are Your Favorite Tv Shows?

Top Ten Tuesday:Top Ten Favourite TV Shows

img_4188-3So I’ve always seen people do this, and it seems fun so let’s get into this. Top Ten Tuesday was creating by This week’s subject is tv themed and I decided to do my Top Ten Favourite Tv Shows which is hard I know but l’m going to try my best.

  1. Gilmore GirlsUnknown

I was super late into the game watching this, mainly because I was like 2  when this first came out, but I discovered  two falls ago, and it’s safely safe it’s one of the best shows I’ve ever watched. I’m so excited for some Rory and Lorelia this fall

2.Veronica Mars     Unknown-1

Kristen Bell is a wonder and a gift to this world, and Veronica Mars is one of the spunky and awesome characters ever. I don’t like detectives stories that much but this one I love more than anything.

3.Brooklyn Nine Nine  Unknown-2.jpeg

This is one of the only comedies I really watch and it’s just so funny and it’s amazing they can pack so much jokes into just twenty minutes.Plus there’s the diverse cast which is such a great bonus, along with a lot of great subjects discussed. If you haven’t watched this show you’re missing out.

4.   Doctor  Who

I love this show, the only problem I have with it is the fact that I can’t stand the 11th doctor which is why i so often forget about it. It is simultaneously my favourite and least favourite show ever. I love the Ninth and Tenth Doctor and I love those seasons but I just can’t stand the 11th doctor. Despite that fact Doctor Who will always be a favourite.

5. Supernatural  Unknown-1

Another one that I often forget about. I love season 1-5 of Supernatural, and then after there are bits and pieces that I really enjoy, but it reached a point where it got to be much, and I just didn’t care. I’ve stopped watching it, the last episode I watched was the musical one which was really good but I’m never going to continue it. They need to learn how to stop

6.The  4400   Unknown-3

This is one of the  most underrated shows I’ve ever watched. I’ve never seen anyone talking about and it  really makes me sad because it’s such a good show. To give you the gist of it, 44400 people  disappear across a period of about 80 years, one day in modern day seattle they return in a ball of light with newfound abilities. It’s kind of like Heroes but different and it’s just so good. It’s on Netflix.

7.The Fosters

This show is really nothing special but I just really like it. It’s super diverse and most of the characters are awesome, and I just really really like it. I haven’t finished season three yet, but everything I have watched I’ve enjoyed. Plus Connor/Jude for life

8. 12 Monkeys

Another super underrated one,it’s a great time travel story filled with tons of twists and turns that’s based off of the movie with Brad Pitt.It has two seasons, and the third one is coming out in 2017 and it’s just really good

9. Pretty Little Liars

I have a love hate relationship with this show, but I’ve suffered through seven seasons of it so that has to mean something right? I think it’s a lot of the times really stupid, but that doesn’t stop me from getting excited every tuesday, and I cannot wait for April so yeah it’s one of my favourites though I know there’s a lot of flaws

10. Shadowhunters

I feel like it’s a little too early for me to call it a favourite but the first season was amazing and I can’t wait to see what they do with the show.
